תקשורת: HowTo: setup home small network connection on Windows environment

Today, more and more commuters are getting into our small house. One computer is not enough any more. Everyone has its own room and wants its own PC dedicated for him. Still, all want to have network availability between the computers. Well, how do we make hat happen ?

There are two network connection types available for this purpose as follows:

Configuration I: direct connection between the computers

Configuration II: network connection using single router

 

Step by step to make it happen:

1. Make sure all your computers an connect to the internet. If not, it might indicate some network setup issues that might prevent the successfull small network setup.

2. Run Windows Update (Start -> Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\wupdmgr.exe and press OK) to make sure all operating systems have latest security fixes.

3. Configure your network adapter

1. Open the Network Connections window

2. Select the network adaptor which connects to the network/other computer and open its Properties

3. Verify the following services reside: Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

4. Select the Internet Protocol TCP/IP and press Properties

5. Press the Advnaced button and go to Wins tab

6. Select Enable NetBios over TCP/IP and press OK

7. Go to the Advanced tab and Disable the Firewall

8. Run the steps above to all computers needed to be connected to the small network

4. On the computer which is connected to the ADSL modem run the following steps

1. Open the Network Connections window

2. Select the network adaptor which connects to the ADSL modem and open its Properties

3. Verify the following services are unchecked reside: Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

5. Define network Workgroup name and name each computer

1. Open the Control Panel

2. Double click the System icon

3. Switch to the Computer Name tab and Press Network ID button

4. Select "This computer is part of business network..." and "The computer uses a network without a domain"

5. Type workgroup name at the Workgroup input box

6. Press OK

7. Press Change... button

8. Type uniqe name to the computer at the Computer name input box

9. Reboot the PC

10. Run the steps above to all computers connected to the network
